A Practical Source and Record Book for Embroiderers. Samplers have been taken as the them for this book because for centuries they were the way to practise and keep patterns of embroidered motifs and alphabets. The sampler has an almost universal tradition and these personalised needlecraft records of yesteryear are much admired and collected today for their decorative value. Embroiderers everywhere are keen to copy the old designs, or to create their own, producing samplers for their own sake, as pictures.
